The oldest part of the city is bordered by the Maumee River to the north, with the Boundary Streets East, West, and South forming the remaining original borders. Over the years, the city outgrew those limitations, and stretches far into the former farmland of Wood County.
Within the boundaries of the original city is Municipal Park. The city summer recreation programs and the city pool are located here, as are parking lots, restrooms, tables, grills, benches, playground equipment, five baseball diamonds, a concession stand, soccer field, a lighted basketball court, basketball, four lighted tennis courts, volleyball, walking trail, and a public phone.
Three Meadows Park, located off Route 20, has parking, a shelter house available to rent, restrooms, tables, grills, benches, horseshoes, basketball, play equipment, walking and jogging tracks and a public phone. There are two ponds; swimming, fishing and non-motorized boating are available in the larger pond. Beach volleyball and paddle boats are available for rent.
Other recreational opportunities abound. The 577 Foundation and nearby Schedel Arboretum not only offer some of the most beautiful gardens in the region, but also preserve the properties natural splendor. Outdoor enthusiasts can also enjoy an open-air farmers market with local vendors, musicians and artisans from summer to fall.
One of the biggest attractions in Perrysburg is Fort Meigs. One of the largest reconstructed log forts in America, it was crucial during the War of 1812. Victory by William Henry Harrison here helped secure the Northwest Territory for the Americans.
Today, Fort Meigs is owned by the Ohio Historical Society, and a number of reenactments and special events take place here throughout the summer. Visitors may see every type of soldier, from Viking warriors to Civil War reenactors, setting up camp at various times throughout the season.
The Perrysburg Exempted Village School District has been rated Excellent by the State of Ohio the highest rating awarded. The district includes four elementary schools, a junior high, and a high school, newly built in 2001.
Along the Maumee, it is not unusual to find homes ranging in price from around $400,000 to well over $1 million. Just a few blocks up from the river, however, properties are much more affordable, with home prices around $100,000 within the borders of the Boundary streets.
As Perrysburg stretches south and east, new subdivisions are cropping up rapidly, particularly along the Route 25 corridor. The majority of homes here are in the $200,000 range, with some in the high $100,000s and some much, much higher. Many of these homes, built in the late 1980s to early 2000s, are within walking distance of Fort Meigs Elementary.
Among the more exclusive neighborhoods of Perrysburg are Carrington Woods, Crandenbrook, The Sanctuary, Sanctuary Meadows, Riverbend, River Ridge, Rivercrest, The Hamlet, Saddlebrook, Belmont Farms, and Hull Prairie Meadows. Home prices here are easily $300,000 and above, nearing or surpassing the $1 million mark. As expected, the beautiful homes in these neighborhoods offer every amenity, as well as large lots and breathtaking views.
Homes ranging in price from $150,000 to less than $300,000 can easily be found in the neighborhoods of Shawnee Trace, Three Meadows, Meadow Creek, Shawnee Junction, Indian Meadows, Bridgefield and Ridgewood Crossing.
Near the southern edge of Perrysburg Township is Levis Commons, a new lifestyle center combining shopping, theaters and residential areas. Dillin Homes has developed Brownstone Commons, luxury townhomes that can include up to four floors of living space. Prices range from $279,900 up to $450,900.
