Criticism of Catholics a constant

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

An employee of a Catholic hospital is not prohibited from using contraceptives or abortion-inducing drugs (“Liberty for whom?”, editorial, April 1). Rather, the Catholic Church, which has viewed these practices as immoral or the murder of innocent life, should not be forced to pay for such drugs.

Would you require the Amish to contribute to Social Security or purchase health insurance? Yet, they are exempt from both of these requirements because of their religious beliefs.

You appear to be inconsistent in your First Amendment religious opinions, except that you seem to be consistently contrary to anything that the Catholic Church does.

Editorial cartoon is what’s ‘yucky’

The second panel of Drew Sheneman’s March 30 editorial cartoon “The gay marriage debate simplified” says: “The case against: God says it’s yucky.” I find his description of God’s word offensive.

My rebuttal to his cartoon is simple. Psalm 111:10 says: “The fear [or respect] of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” It’s apparent that Mr. Sheneman has no fear and no respect.

Cartoon’s quote found offensive

Shame on you for publishing the March 30 editorial cartoon by Drew Sheneman about the debate in the U.S. Supreme Court regarding gay marriage: “God says it’s yucky.” That quote is offensive to me and many other Christians.

Changing a mind goes other way too

In response to associate editor Keith Burris’ op-ed column, “Finding the courage to change your mind”: What about people who were pro-choice and are now pro-life? It seems as though your column was one-sided,

Protection from God is lost

God is compassionate and not responsible for evil. He has promised to bless us if we keep His commands, but has promised to allow evil, sudden terror, and wasting diseases upon us if we reject Him.

When President Obama said in Turkey in 2009 that the United States does not consider itself a Christian nation, we may have lost the protection of the God who created us.
