Why pass an ordinance that targets some, but not all rental properties and homes?
If property owners must be sent a clear and unambiguous message that the city is serious about the lead-free ordinance, then the city should protect the health of all children, not just those residing in rental property (Nov. 28, “Lead charges send a message”).
Why pass an ordinance that only targets rental properties with up to four units? Children live in larger apartment complexes, as well as privately owned homes.
It’s time Toledo held everyone to the same standard. Then and only then will Toledo truly be “protecting the health of its children.”
Don’t credit Trump for good economy
In his Nov. 25 column, “Critics still can’t give Trump his due despite thriving economy,” Cal Thomas laments that not enough credit is given to President Trump for the good state of the economy.
Mr. Thomas does not seem to be able to pinpoint any action by the Trump Administration that could have positively impacted the economy. The economic indicators cited by Mr. Thomas (stock market, unemployment rate) are simply following the positive trends established during the Barack Obama presidency.
Let’s hope that the actions that the Trump Administration and the Republican-led Congress are about to take, in particular those on tax reform and deregulation of the banks, are not going to derail the trends and cause the economic meltdown that occurred when former President George W. Bush and another Republican-led Congress were in charge.
Panhandlers are a problem in city
When will the panhandlers be dealt with by Toledo? Do they really need help?
This is an ongoing problem. The city needs to fix it.
