ALLENTOWN, Pa. -- For the second day, the Mud Hens played an unusual doubleheader at Lehigh Valley, winning 3-2 to finish Sunday's rain-suspended contest first before winning 6-5 in the second seven-inning contest.
Tied at 1 to start the third inning in the opening game, Clete Thomas hammered a two-run home run to give the Hens a 3-1 advantage.
Matt Hoffman was forced to make an unusually early appearance into a game and the reliever pitched tossed 3⅓ innings of shutout baseball.
Game one got close when reliever RHP Enrique Gonzalez gave up a RBI double in the sixth. However, Gonzalez settled down to earn his ninth save of the year.
The Hens stole the lead back immediately in the second, down 1-0 in the second game. Ben Guez and Danny Worth each provided a RBI single.
Lehigh Valley tied the game as the IronPigs were helped out when Hens shortstop Argenis Diaz made a throwing error to first that allowed the Pigs to tie game.
Toledo regained the lead when Guez and Scott Thorman connected on back-to-back doubles.
Just like the second inning, Guez and Worth each provided a RBI in the sixth to give the Hens two needed insurance runs.
Timo Perez added what turned into a very valuable insurance RBI when he roped a RBI single in the seventh to extend Toledo's lead to 6-3.
