ALLENTOWN, Pa. — The Mud Hens wasted multiple opportunities to score Saturday night as they were shut out 1-0 by the Lehigh Valley IronPigs.
Toledo mustered just six hits and failed to break through against any of the four pitchers they faced.
Trailing 1-0 in the seventh, Eugenio Suarez smacked a double to right field to lead off the inning. He andvanced to third after a Wade Gaynor groundout.
Suarez led the Hens, going 2-for-3 with a double.
Ben Guez took a called third strike and Ezequiel Carrera flew out to center to end the threat.
Perhaps the biggest blown chance for the Hens came in the fifth when they had the bases loaded with one away.
Suarez began the inning with a base hit and advanced to second on a one-out single from Guez. Carrera drew a base-on-balls to load them up.
With a shot at a big inning, Hernan Perez popped out and Tyler Collins flew out.
Toledo was 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position and stranded eight runners.
The lone run of the game came in the bottom of the fourth on a fielder's choice.
The IronPigs' Ronny Cedeno doubled to right and advanced Andres Blanco to third. Addison Maruszak grounded out to second, scoring Blanco, to give Lehigh Valley the only run it needed.
The Mud Hens wasted a good start from Kyle Lobstein (3-5), who was a tough-luck loser despite allowing just one run in seven innings on nine hits. He struck out six and walked two.
Lehigh Valley's Chris Bootcheck (1-0) picked up the win, giving up five hits in five innings. He fanned three and walked a pair.
Toledo plays at 1:35 p.m. today at Lehigh Valley to finish its nine-game road trip.
The Mud Hens return home for a 6 p.m. game Monday against Durham, the first of a four-game series. That is followed by games Friday and Saturday against Charlotte.
