11 arrested after George Zimmerman protest in San Bernardino turns into rock-throwing violence

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — Police say marchers protesting the acquittal of George Zimmerman turned violent in San Bernardino, with some people hurling rocks at cars and officers.

Eleven people were arrested Thursday night.

The San Bernardino Sun says about 100 people protesting Zimmerman’s acquittal in the shooting of Florida teen Trayvon Martin marched to an intersection where some became unruly.

Witnesses say some protesters tossed bricks or rocks at passing cars. Most of the crowd heeded orders to disperse but police say around 50 people moved behind walls and began pelting officers with rocks and bottles.

Eleven were arrested on suspicion of battery, vandalism and assault, including hitting a police horse with a rock. The arrestees also included a 22-year-old parolee who was chased down after someone reported being attacked by a protester.
