PHOENIX — A Phoenix man accused of stabbing his mother nine times with a kitchen knife says God told him to do it.
Bail was set at $500,000 for 18-year-old Cory Kit Montgomery at his initial court appearance today.
He doesn’t have an attorney yet.
Montgomery was arrested early Monday on suspicion of attempted second-degree murder and resisting arrest.
Witnesses told police that they saw Montgomery stab the victim multiple times while she yelled out that she loved her son.
Police say they later found the knife in a parking lot near the area where the attack occurred.
The woman was taken to a Phoenix hospital for treatment of non-fatal stab wounds.
Montgomery told detectives that he stabbed his mother multiple times because God had told him to do it.
