OSU lands QB recruit

COLUMBUS — Ohio State's closely watched pursuit of a quarterback for its 2014 recruiting class is over.

Or is it?

Georgia quarterback Stephen Collier announced on Twitter late Friday night he has committed to OSU. Yet while the Buckeyes likely planned to sign only one player at the position, this story may not be over.

Brandon Harris, a Louisiana native widely billed as the nation's top dual-threat prospect and the Buckeyes' top uncommitted quarterback target, said he remains interested in OSU.

After Collier committed, Harris posted on Twitter, "By him committing means nothing ... very strongly still consider THE OHIO STATE!"

"If you care about a school taking 2 QB or competing with other guys [you're] not the right player!" added Harris, who plans to announce his decision next month. "Show up and compete!"

The Buckeyes originally targeted Harris, Kyle Allen of Texas, and Zack Darlington of Florida. But after Allen committed to Texas A&M and Darlington pledged to Nebraska, OSU coaches broadened their scope.

Collier became their guy. Ranked as a three-star prospect by Scout.com and a two-star by Rivals.com, the 6-foot-4, 210-pound Collier plays miles outside the spotlight in rural Leesburg, Ga.. (Population: 2,912). His previous offers came from Boston College, Cincinnati, Toledo — and in a nod to his reported 4.2 grade-point average — Harvard among others.

Collier threw for 1,887 yards and 23 touchdowns and rushed for 11 touchdowns as a junior last season, then vaulted his profile on this year's camp circuit.
