Top Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliott undergoes wrist surgery

COLUMBUS — Top Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliott underwent surgery today for an unspecified wrist injury suffered in practice Friday, the school confirmed.

A team spokesman said the injury to Elliott's left, non-dominant wrist — he carries the ball with his right arm — is minor and the sophomore is expected to return to practice midway through next week.

Elliott will get the first crack to replace All-American Carlos Hyde as the Buckeyes' starting tailback, but senior Rod Smith, sophomore Bri'onte Dunn, and freshman Curtis Samuel are also in the mix.
