Perrysburg woman convicted of setting fire at a business she owned to collect insurance

BOWLING GREEN – Following a three-day trial, a Perrysburg woman was convicted today of setting a fire at a business she owned to collect the insurance money.

A jury in Wood County Common Pleas Court deliberated about three hours then returned guilty verdicts about 3 p.m. against Patricia Groves, 58, on charges of aggravated arson and insurance fraud. She started a fire Dec. 20, 2011 at Downey’s Daisy Home Services, 777 Dixie Hwy. in Rossford then filed an insurance claim for $14,787.

Groves, who had been free on her own recognizance, was taken into custody after the verdicts were read. Judge Alan Mayberry set bond at $50,000 and scheduled sentencing for Aug. 23.
