Storytime, Mardi Gras, music, sports highlight February weekend

Ah, February. Snow, sleet, slush. Groundhogs and Valentines. Black History Month, Presidents' Day, Chinese New Year, and this year, Ash Wednesday.

As the second weekend of the month approaches (can spring be far behind?), Perrysburg's community calendar brims with a bunch of "let's-go-there" activities, including a Mardi Gras celebration at the high school.

BOOKS AND STORIES

For the youngsters, Books-A-Million, 2105 Levis Commons Blvd., offers a storytime at 11 a.m. Saturday. Phone: 419-873-0727

MARDI GRAS CELEBRATION

Perrysburg High School’s French Club will be hosting its annual Mardi Gras celebration at the high school Commons from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday. This event, featuring games, music, food, and the chance to win prizes, is open to the public. There is no charge to get in but minimal charge to play games and for food.

MUSIC

Music offerings this weekend include:

Performances at Stella's Restaurant and Bar, 104 Louisiana Ave., 873-8360; Acoustic Soul: today; Meaghan Roberts: Friday; Brian Bocian: Saturday. 

For those who like the blues: Arnie's, 25818 Dixie Hwy., 931-6950, will feature the Pete 'Big Dog' Fetters Show on Saturday and at Fat Fish Blue, 6140 Levis Commons Blvd., 931-3474, Pikasso performs on Friday and Saturday.

For the sounds of Jazz and Big Band: At the Holiday Inn French Quarter, 10630 State Rt. 20, 874-3111, Schmoove will take the stage Friday and Saturday. And in the Jackson Square Atrium: Gene Parker's brunch show on Sunday.

COMEDY

Looking for some laughs? At the Funny Bone Comedy Club: Fat Fish Blue, 6140 Levis Commons Blvd., 931-3474, Greg Warren will be in the house today through Sunday for several performances.
