The Perrysburg High School Marching Band performed last year during the Memorial Day parade in Perrysburg.
The Perrysburg Memorial Day parade is less than two weeks away and plans are being finalized this week for it.
The Perrysburg American Legion Post 28 is conducting the parade that will start at 10 a.m. from Louisiana Avenue and Fifth Street and end at the Fort Meigs Union Cemetery. The nearly mile and a half parade will be led by military veterans being honored and can be followed by anyone who would like to participate.
"There will be Boy Scouts, the Perrysburg Twirling Sophisticates, and antique cars," said Bob Kervin of Post 28. He was in the Navy Reserve from 1951 to 1959 and is a second vice commander now. "It is very important to veterans. It is important to have veterans honored, and the ones deceased," he said about the Memorial Day activities.
Craig Gauger, Perrysburg Post 28 commander who served from 1979 to 2010 in the Air Force, said the parade line up will feature the police chief , then the Perrysburg High School Band followed by fire trucks and convertibles that could carry local officials, such as Mayor Nelson Evans.
"It means a lot when people appreciate veterans for their service since I was in most of my life," Mr. Gauger said. "The American flag means a lot to me, it irks me to see someone not show respect to the flag."
Local veteran Bob Romaker, who served in the Marines during World War II, is planning on being part of the Color Guard for the parade. There will be a ceremony at the cemetery after the parade, including a speech by Mayor Evans.
"We get an awfully big crowd," Mr. Kervin said. "We have a nice ceremony at the cemetery."
