The Perrysburg proposed 2014 budget has allotted $95,000 to develop a skateboard park.
The budget hasn't been approved yet, but the line item shows the city is seriously considering the idea.
City Council member Todd Grayson said a group of skate boarders have created a stir about it in the recreation committee.
"I think it is a good community idea and in general I think everyone is on board for having a skate park," Mr. Grayson said.
The next step for the skate park would be getting the skateboarders create an organization to better communicate what might be desired from the city. Then, the city will talk to the group about creating design plans with a firm and where the park would be located.
The group would need to raise funds for the project. Mr. Grayson said he would like to see the skateboarders get their "skin in the game," meaning raising money to cover perhaps 20 to 40 percent of the cost.
"There is a group of young people in town that are excited about having a skate park, and are willing to sit down with the city and work out a fundraising event to help make that a reality," said Jon Eckel, city director of public services. "If it is approved, we may begin the preliminary work."
Mr. Eckel said this is very much at the beginning stages, with no site selected, no design done, and no meeting set with the group. That will happen next year, if it is approved in the budget.
"My guess is there's no construction in 2014," Mr. Grayson said. "I think you get the design and find where it is going and then start construction in 2015 -- that's my gut feeling."
