Perrysburg Township trustees today approved three separate purchase orders from the fire department for training, equipment, and supplies.

Fire and EMS Chief Tom Brice said the department's four heart monitors would become obsolete in 2016 and requested purchase of one new one now for $26,915.40.

"I'm kinda trying to avoid purchasing all four at once," he said.

Chief Brice said the newer model is able to transmit an EKG reading directly to an emergency room, which could help the patient be admitted to a catheterization laboratory sooner.

He also requested $17,200 to cover tuition and expenses for training of two firefighters, and $799 for medical supplies.

The board of trustees approved the orders, 3-0.

In other matters, the board unanimously approved the recommended slate for the township's Zoning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals.

On the commission, Robert Black was renewed for a five-year term, as were alternates Jeffrey Normand and John Benavides for a one-year term.

On the appeals board, outgoing member Russell Sturgill's position remained vacant, but the one-year alternate terms of Bob Warnimont and Elsie Hartman were renewed.

Trustees also offered words of appreciation for township administrator John Hrosko, who is retiring at the end of the year.

"You did a remarkable job. It hasn't always been easy," trustee Gary Britten said.
