Alexandria Francis, an intern at the Wood County National Alliance on Mental Illness, is crossing her fingers that the temperature comes down for the organization's fund-raiser Saturday morning at Woodland Park.
There will be a 5K run, and mile walk, at 8 a.m. to raise money for the non-profit organization.
Ms. Francis said the event is also meant to try to raise awarenessabout mental illness and help people become more comfortable around those with an illness. She said there are many volunteers already helping at the event.
"Any amount of people there we will be happy about," she said. "We just want to raise awareness. We're hoping for around upward of 100 people."
Early registration is $25, which includes a race shirt, or $20 without it. On race day it will cost $30 to register and get a race shirt and $20 without. Individual shirts will be sold at $15.
The top runner in different age groups will be awarded along with the overall male and female winners, and any runner under the age of 12.
Ms. Francis said the money will be used for other events put on by the organization as well as its day-to-day programming, which includes trying to raise awareness and aid families that have someone with a mental illness. This is the first run/walk fund-raiser in Perrysburg with the National Alliance on Mental Illness, but Ms. Francis said they might try to host it again this fall.
Woodlands Park is located at 429 E. Boundary St. Registration begins at 7 a.m. Saturday.
