The Perrysburg Township Fire Department plans to seek renewal of two levies, combined for 3 mills, and the township trustees would like the issues to be on the November general election ballot.

One levy is for 1 mill and the other is for 2 mill. Each mill would cost the owner of a home valued at $100,000 about $100 a year, or $300 for both levies.

The 1 mill levy generates $525,580 and the other levy generates $915,771 each year for the fire department.

"It covers our day-to-day operations," Fire Chief Tom Brice said. "It needs to pass for people to expect the same services. Without it, we would have to make huge cuts. It is almost half our budget."

The fire department also has a 4-mill levy that was approved by voters last year.

Township Administrator Walt Celley said that, if the renewals were going to be voted on in May, the township would need to get moving quickly to get them on the ballot. Trustees Gary Britten and Bob Mack both said they wanted the levy votes to be on the November ballot.

"More people go out for the prime election," Mr. Britten said.
