Perrysburg City Council approved on Tuesday more plans for State Rt. 25 and Eckel Junction Road improvements, including new traffic lights and hiring a project design firm.

Council unanimously approved paying $32,465 to Graybar Electric, of Toledo, for new traffic signal poles and four mast arms. Another unanimous vote was to pay $186,300 to DGL Consulting Engineers of Maumee to oversee the project. Council also authorized the city to solicit contractor bids for other improvements.

DGL Consulting Engineers was hired as the resident project representation. City Administrator Bridgette Kabat said the firm will make sure all the construction is completed correctly.

The entire project will add four new lanes to the intersection and lengthen another five. It was estimated to cost $2.25 million, with Costco paying $396,000 and Mercy Health System, which has an emergency medical clinic on the west side of Rt. 25, paying about $350,000. The work will take place this summer.

Costco plans to break ground next spring for a 154,000-square-foot store at the southeast corner of the intersection.

In Costco's traffic study, the intersection during peak hours now has a level of service of "E," but that will drop to a "D" after the improvements. A "D" level of service means cars wait on an average of 35 to 55 seconds before passing through the intersection.
