The Perrysburg Township trustees approved a 3-year labor union contract with the firefighters this week, the terms of which were taken from a fact finder‘s report.
Employees will receive a 1.5 percent raise in each of the next two years and 2 percent the final year. The contract is retroactive to Jan. 1 and expires Dec. 31, 2016.
Both sides agreed on the fact finder’s report in early May, but a 43-page contract based off the report was just approved by the trustees.
The International Association of Fire Fighters Local 4170 represents the department‘s 16 firefighters. The union members approved the fact finder’s report so they won’t vote on the contract itself, according to the union’s lawyer.
The new contract includes an increase of meal money for training out of the area, rising from $25 to $46 a day, and a slight pay bump for firefighters in charge on shifts.
The township negotiations for the police contracts haven‘t gone as smoothly. After the township approved the fact finder’s report in early July, the police union rejected it.
That fact finding report would have given the Ohio Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association‘s 24 township employees a 1.5 percent pay raise this year and next yea, and a 2 percent increase in 2016. It also would have the township contribute 85 percent of toward health care premiums. The police union sought a 4 percent wage increase each of the next three years.
The two sides will now have to move to conciliation from a State Employment Relations Board.
Michelle Sullivan, who is the union‘s attorney, hopes for a resolution in the next month or two.
