Fact-finder's report rejected by Perrysburg Township police union

Perrysburg Township officials and the township police union were not able to reach an agreement on a new labor contract through fact finding stage and now will move to conciliation from a State Employment Relations Board.

The township trustees approved the fact finder‘‍s report, but the union did not.

The report, prepared by Donald Jaffe, would have given the Ohio Patrolmen’‍s Benevolent Association employees a 1.5 percent pay raise this year and next year, and a 2 percent increase in 2016. It also would have the township contribute 85 percent of toward health care premiums.

“It was a lot of give and take, we didn‘‍t get everything we wanted but perhaps they didn’‍t either,” said township trustee Bob Mack, referring to the board‘s approval of the report.

The union voted 19-4 to reject the fact finder‘‍s report. The union has 18 patrolmen, three sergeants, and six dispatchers.

“From our standpoint, the fact finder just used the (Perrysburg Township) firefighters fact finding report and adopted those terms,” said Michelle Sullivan, attorney representing the union. “In this case, the police wages in this department are falling behind other area departments. ”The law enforcement is underpaid.“

The union asked for a 4 percent wage increase each year during the three-year contract. The township wanted a 1 percent increase this year, 1.5 next year, and a 2 percent the third year.

Ms. Sullivan said that, with the state involved, she expects a resolution in August or September.
