College completion coach Tiffany Steele works, left, on creating a cartoon drawing of her life as Marisa Soto, 18, a theater student, crafts her own cartoon this week at an Owens Community College stress relief workshop.
Owens Community College this week offered free workshops to help participants reduce stress and integrate art into their wellness routines.
One technique used was to get participants to draw cartoons.
Presented as part of the AmeriCorps College Completion Coaches Initiative, the workshops explored stretching, relaxation and breathing techniques to reduce stress as well as how the arts can assist in balancing life through self-care and self-expression. Each workshop focused on an art-specific exercise and hands-on activities, such as collage-making, cartoon your life, self-portrait, and still-life drawing.
