Perrysburg High School's auditorium was brimming with solo acts, guitar players, dancers, and other performers as students showed off their talents in front of judges and fans Saturday during the Showfest of Talent.

Winners of the top dancer, singer, and instrumentalist awards as well as an overall winner and people's choice award won prizes donated by local businesses. Two season passes to Cedar Point were given to two lucky winners. Those who paid a $5 general admission ticket to the event were eligible to win the passes. The people's choice award was decided by attendees in the crowd who voted via text messages, similar to voting on American Idol.

"This is one of the highlights of the year," said high school music director Joel Hamilton. "It is exciting to see the kids get excited about it. I started [the talent show] when I began here, it's growing and has been fun."

It will be the third year of the talent show.

The high school Jazz Singers and Women's Select Choir both performed a number of acts including "Mercy," originally done by Duffy, "You Make Me Feel Like Dancing," "I Dream to Dream," and the "Evolution of Dance."

Other talents included baton twirlers, bands, and dance groups. Performers who wanted to take part in the talent show auditioned a month before the event.

The talent show today was judged by some members of the public and teachers, Mr. Hamilton said.
