Owens Community College will close its Child Care Center on the Perrysburg Township campus June 30.
In an internal email, college president Mike Bower said today that the care center will shut its doors due to budgetary restrictions.
“In order to maintain the high level of quality in our facilities and services, the college has been required to subsidize the operations for many years,” Mr. Bower wrote. “The college is no longer able to absorb these financial losses while maintaining the quality of services that parents expect to receive.”
The center is utilized by college students, faculty, and staff members, as well as the outside community. It is also used as a training facility for students majoring in the college's teacher education program.
A child care center also exists at Owens' Findlay campus; however, a decision has not yet been made about the future of that property.
