Hundreds of runners filled streets in and around Perrysburg on Saturday, participating in the Churchill Half Marathon.

It was the 47th time the race has taken place, but in the past it has always been in the spring. Todd Germana, race director with Toledo Roadrunners Club, said they are calling it the 46.5 annual race because they are running it in the fall instead of the spring.

It is being changed to the fall because the Glass City Marathon added a half marathon.

"It didn't make sense for us to have 2 half-marathons within weeks of each other," Mr. Germana said. "We also decided to flip our traditional 10 miler fall race into the Churchill's spring date, that race will have three -- distanced 5K, 15K, and 25K -- gearing up runners to compete in the Glass City Half or Full Marathon."

He said the race on Saturday had more than 700 runners, but expects to double it next year with more than five months to plan and advertise the race.

The race started at Perrysburg High School at 9 a.m. It then went down to Perrysburg, to West River Road and then back south Hull Praire Road. The route took runners over the bridge to Waterville, then up West River Road to finish in at the Fallen Timbers mall.

"It one of the oldest races in Ohio," Mr. Germana said. "The course is a point to point race, starting in Perrysburg and finishing in Maumee. This adds a lot of complexity to the management of the race, but creates a unique experience for the runners as the course covers several cities and a changing landscape."
