Trooper cadets rank high in academics, firearms

Ohio Highway Patrol cadets from Perrysburg and Norwalk were top performers in firearms and academics among a 43-member academy class that graduated Friday in Columbus.

Trooper Matthew R. Cook, Jr., of Perrysburg will report to his first assignment at the Findlay post today, as will Trooper Justin J. Fleming of Norwalk at the Sandusky post.

Other new troopers from northwest Ohio from the patrol’s 155th academy class are Eric J. Devers of Kenton, assigned to the Piqua post; Nicholas J. Konrad of Toledo, the Toledo post, and Thomas J. Schoefield of Tiffin, to the Xenia post.

The troopers’ first 60 days will be a field-training period under veteran officers. Academy training included core values, crash investigation, criminal and traffic law, impaired-driver detection, firearms, and emergency vehicle operations.
