“I was driving down Brint the other day and noticed the bookstore,” Laura Bigelow, the Sylvania mayor’s office administrative assistant, explained. “I thought, wow. That’s so cool. A Lourdes University bookstore. We really are a college town.”
Lourdes University opened its first off-campus bookstore last week. It is in the Sylvan Plaza, at the corner of Brint and McCord roads, next to its off-campus apartment complex for students.
The store sells Lourdes apparel, text books, non-text books, electronics, and snacks.
Mary Arquette, vice president for Institutional Advancement at Lourdes, is excited about the university’s new addition to the community.
“Lourdes enhances and enriches the community and the bookstore is part of that,” Ms. Arquette said.
The bookstore plans to host book signing events and sales. Patrice McClellan, co-author of Herstories, signed her book for last week’s the grand opening. Ms. McClellan is an assistant professor and director of the Masters of Organizational Leadership program at Lourdes. Herstories analyzes the social leadership roles of African American women in today's society.
