Tessa Mossing opened her shop, TK Lanes Boutique, in October in downtown Sylvania.
When Tessa Mossing, the owner of TK Lane’s Boutique, designed the layout of the downtown Sylvania shop, she focused on customer experience.
“I think people like to shop in venues. It makes things nicer and easier to find,” she said. When people walk into her shop at 5675 Main St., she said, they peruse in a pattern, starting in seasonal items such as Christmas ornaments, then moving to wine, next kitchen, and then bath.

The shop's 2,500 square feet, is divided by specialty. One corner displays jewelry items priced from $5 to under $30, and the higher-end beaded bracelet line Chamilia. Nearby are purses and the baby department.
The shop, which opened in October, has whimsical themes of merchandise.
A lifelong Sylvania resident, Mrs. Mossing, 48, relied on her former connections as gift sales representative to stock the store with home decor merchandise and accessories.
“I had been in a lot of different boutiques and shops and knew a lot of the companies," she said. "I was familiar with the lines. So it was a good starting point to open.”
Each year, she attends out-of-state gift shows, including the AmericasMart Atlanta, to “see and feel the products” she might purchase.
Shoppers Dolores Martel of Westland, Mich. and her daughter Diane Knoff of Higgins Lake, Mich. were in town for a family event when they discovered the store. Like many who enter, they were surprised.
“This is so cute,” Ms. Martel said. “This is the first time we are in here, but I think we will come back in the summertime and make a day of hitting up all these little shops downtown.”
Krista Scott, of Curtice, Ohio, stopped in the shop to find a gift for a friend's birthday.
"She has unique stuff here you don't see at other places," she said.
