Music, dodge ball, artwork highlight weekend in Sylvania area

This weekend, local residents will be able to flashback to the 1970s with the annual Disco Party, roast marshmallows by the fire, and enjoy music over lunch.

 

■ FRIDAY

Take a break from your busy work day to slow down and enjoy an hour of live music. Wildwood Preserve hosts Noon Tunes. Residents are invited to grab a lawn chair and some friends, and have lunch while listening to pleasant music by Toledo School for the Arts. The free concert starts at noon at the gazebo on the Manor House lawn, Wildwood Preserve Metropark, 5100 W. Central Ave., Sylvania Township. For information, visit www.metroparkstoledo.com.

In celebration of the last workday of the week, Olander Park System holds TGIF at Sylvan Prairie Park. All the family is invited to the night stroll through the park that begins at sunset. After walking through the park’s floodplains, children and parents can sit at a fire to listen to stories while snacking on s’mores. Dust off your high-waisted flared legged-pants and your strappy platform shoes. It’s time to let out your inner love for the the 1970s bizarre fashion trends shine at the 18th annual Disco Party at Centennial Terrace. General admission is $30 and $350 for a VIP table. ■ SATURDAY

The family of Matt Stevenson is hosting Matty’s 2nd Annual Memorial Dodge Ball Tournament, held to keep the late teen's spirit alive. He died in a car accident at the age of 17. As Matty was a lover of hockey and a goaltender and also an avid dodge ball player, all proceeds from the all-day tournament will fund the enrollment of young hockey players to nationally recognized goalie camps. The cost is $150 per team of six to 10 players. The tournament begins at 10 a.m. and should finish around 3 p.m. and includes food and a silent auction. Spectators and donations welcomed. View the natural wonders of Oak Openings through an artist's eye. An exhibition at the American Gallery features the works of 15 artists displaying the beauties of the region. The works include acrylics, oils, watercolors, photographs, drawings and sculptures. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, but the gallery also is open Monday through Friday. ■ SUNDAY

Local musician Tom Drummonds will perform a solo acoustic show Village Inn’s patio. The Toledo guitarist is known for his mix of contemporary music to old folk rock renditions of the 1980s and 1990s.
