The annual Pizza Palooza contest at Centennial Terrace is coming up this month.
Ten restaurants are expected to compete for the title of best pizza in northwest Ohio at the July 26 and 27 event, which is hosted by the Sylvania Area Chamber of Commerce and the Sylvania Area Joint Recreation District and sponsored by Kistler Ford. The Blade is one of the media sponsors.
The event at the center at 5773 Centennial Rd. runs 5-11 p.m. on July 26 and 4-11 p.m. on July 27.
Newcomer J-Cups Pizza will be competing with previous contenders: Amie’s – Mancino’s Pizza, Charlie’s Pizza, Jet’s Pizza, Jo-Jo’s Pizzeria, Mama Mary’s, Pizza Hut, Pizza Papalis of Toledo, PizzAroma and Vito’s Pizza.
More than 12,000 people are expected. The event has a people’s choice award and a judges' award. Media chefs and business leaders will compete for bragging rights for the corporate/media trophies.
Entertainment will include Skoobie Snacks, Arctic Clam, Chris Shutters Band on July 26 and Branden Stansley, Mt. Fuji and the Eruptions, Distant Cousinz and Flabongo Nation on July 27.
Children’s activities are sponsored by Over the Rainbow Early Learning Center and will take place from 5:00 to 8:00 PM each day and features clowns, face painting and activities from Imagination Station, YMCA/JCC, The Toledo Zoo, Sand Art, Toni and Guy Hair Dressing Academy, Over the Rainbow Early Learning Center and The Bouncy Thing.
Funds raised from the event benefit the chamber and Joint Recreation District for education and beautification projects. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for children ages 5-12, and free for children under 5. Pizza vendors will sell pizza for $1.50 to $2 a slice. Advance tickets are available at Metamora State Bank, SylvaniaVET, and the Sylvania Chamber office.
