The Lourdes University Drama Society will kick-off its 2013-14 season on Tuesday, Sept. 10, with a benefit performance of Oliver Hazard Perry: Hero of Lake Erie.
The 35-minute monologue will feature Jeremy Meier who was commissioned by the Ohio Humanities Council to develop and write the play for the 200th anniversary of the start of the Battle of Lake Erie in which Oliver Hazard Perry was victorious over an entire British squadron during the War of 1812.
Meier, an assistant professor at Owens Community College in Perrysburg Township, portrays Commodore Perry in the climactic battle that preserved the Old Northwest for the United States.
At the conclusion of the performance, the audience will have a chance to participate in a question and answer period with the actor still in character.
Curtain time is 8 p.m. in the Franciscan Center Theatre at the Lourdes campus off of Convent Boulevard in Sylvania. Tickets are $5, with proceeds benefiting the Drama Society. Tickets are limited and can be purchased in advance by calling the Franciscan Center box office at 419-824-3999.
