Christmas tree recycling is under way in Sylvania and Sylvania Township, although city residents can leave their trees at the curbside and township residents must take their trees to a drop-off point.
The tree recycling in in the City of Sylvania runs starts today and runs through Jan. 11.
City crews will pick up trees curbside sometime during those 9 days, and they will recycle the trees into compost and mulch. The city uses the compost and mulch in community parks, and also saves money on trash collection, by using the trees in that manner.
For the township, there is no curbside pickup of trees this year.
The drop-off site, available through Jan. 11, is at the southwest corner of the township's administration building at 4927 Holland-Sylvania Rd. An orange fence will be set up to indicate where the trees can be placed.
