Company C Dance Club’s senior dance, "1940," earned top honors at West Coast Dance Explosion’s Final Showdown National Competition July 12 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The Pinnacle Cup is awarded to the highest scoring dance among 200 plus entries over the week long competition. A $6,000 cash prize along with a crystal cup was presented to Company C Dance Club, 6540 W Central Ave. in Sylvania Township. Additionally, Oceana Cruise Line awarded a cruise for two valued at $25,000 to Company C owner and director, Jessica Brutlag.
The winning dance was executed by Kassie Bishop, Jaelyn Blake, Alyssa Brutlag, Madi Creps, Sean Howe, Kendall Kropp, Katie Kropp, Kelsey McCormick, Chandler Riley, Maddie Riley, and Hallie Toland. Choreographed by Cassie Dzienny, the dance portrays the difficulty of maintaining the illusion of a perfect marriage in 1940.
“This win is a true Cinderella story for Company C. We never dreamed that a little studio from Toledo would be able to achieve such a large national honor. The true reward is the validation that hard work and teamwork pays off in the end,” Ms. Brutlag said.
While the senior dance captured top honors, Company C dances earned honors in every age group. The Mini dance, "Better Than You," and Junior dance, "Life is Rosy," earned six place overall in their age groups while the Teen dance, "Til Kingdom Come," captured second place.
Additionally, two individual Company C dancers earned top honors with Graham Feeny earning second runner up in the teen male competition and Hallie Toland earned second runner up in the senior female division.
Company C dancer, Sean Howe was honored during the competition as the outgoing Senior Male Elite Dancer. He was also awarded a $40,000 contract to perform on Oceana Cruise Line.
