It was sunny and high in the 40s today, but it was a wintry mix indeed during an evening concert today at the Northview High School Performing Arts Center in Sylvania where students performed a variety of seasonal selections, including "Sleigh Ride," a popular light orchestral piece composed by Leroy Anderson who is said to have come up with the idea for the piece during a heat wave in July, 1946.

Northview's winter concert featured other traditional holiday songs, including "Baby It's Cold Outside" and the Chip Davis/Mannheim Steamroller arrangement of "Stille Nacht." Non-holiday renditions of popular and orchestral arrangements were performed as well.

The concert, presented by Northview High School's band and orchestras, was highlighted by performances by the Northview Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, Concert Orchestra, and Chamber Orchestra.

Including a selection tied holiday-style to Chip Davis seems like a good fit for the Sylvania school concert.

Creator of Mannheim Steamroller, Mr. Davis is  a graduate of Sylvania Schools. He has sold more than 40 million records, including 27 million in the Christmas genre, making Mannheim Steamroller one of the top 50 biggest selling musical artists and the biggest selling Christmas artist of all time, according to the multi-platinum selling group's Web site.
