The Sylvania Heritage Museum will host an elementary art show, beginning next week.

Art teachers from Sylvania elementary schools have been busy setting up the show at the museum for the past few weeks. The show will open to the public on Wednesday, with a reception for students from Central Trail Elementary who have work displayed in the show.

A reception for each school will take place in the weeks following. Joy Armstrong, director of Sylvania's Historical Village, which is associated with the museum, said the show is now in its 11th year.

“It just evolved,” she said, about the origin of the event. “It's a way to show off the elementary art.”

Art will cover the walls of the first floor of the museum, and ranges many different mediums, including pottery, drawings, paintings and more.

The art also spans many different cultures. Whiteford Elementary School art teacher Liz Schooner showed off Japanese scrolls and Islamic tiles on Wednesday, as she assembled the work of her students.

“I thought it would be neat for them to come in and see their artwork,” she said, about why the event is important for her classes. She has been participating in the event for the past three years.
