Reverend Marcus Carl Lohrmann
The Lourdes University Department of Theological Studies will present its 2013 Ecumenical Lecture, “Full Communion Relationships: An Ecumenical Way Forward” on Sunday, Feb. 24, at 3 p.m.
The lecture, which will take place in the Franciscan Center, will be presented by the Rev. Marcus Carl Lohrmann, bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, Northwest Ohio Synod.
Bishop Lohrmann will address the nature of the full communion relationships that the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America has been engaged in with partner churches, most for over a decade. Such agreements make possible mutual worship, sharing of the Lord’s Supper and exchange of pastors, while also recognizing and respecting the differences of the churches.
He will reflect on and offer advice on the success of such relationships, the challenges involved, and some of the issues that the ELCA and its full communion partners faced.
Bishop Lohrmann has served as bishop at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America since 1998, now serving his third six-year term. He received his Masters of Divinity from Concordia Seminary in Exile and was ordained in 1977 at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Hazelwood, Mo. He completed his Doctorate in Ministry at Christ Seminary – Seminex. Past appointments include an internship at Our Redeemer of Indianapolis, Ind., Reverend at Lutheran Church of Good Shepherd of St. Louis, Mo., St. John in Hicksville, Ohio, and Olivet Lutheran Church in Sylvania, where he remains a member.
