The director of food service Savita Jindal defends herself during Sylvania school board meeting at Southview High School in Sylvania, Ohio. The board terminated her employment.
A Sylvania woman who was fired by the Sylvania city school board for allegedly misreporting the number of free or reduced lunches served to students last school year has sued the school district and two administrators for defaming her.
Savita Jindal, who worked as director/manager of food service and purchasing for the district from 2006 until last month, said in the complaint filed Thursday in Lucas County Common Pleas Court that Brad Rieger, superintendent, and Jane Spurgeon, executive director of human resources, had made false statements about her, harming her personal and professional reputation.
“Defendants’ statements will forever taint Jindal’s professional career,” the complaint states. “Jindal will forever be viewed incorrectly as the type of employee that would intentionally fabricate data month after month instead of being viewed accurately as a conscientious and hardworking employee who made great improvements in her department’s reporting procedures.”
The lawsuit seeks monetary damages and attorney fees. A phone call to Sylvania schools was not immediately returned.
