Northview teacher wins OCALI Educator Award

Chloe Rothschild and Anna Schroeder.

Anna Schroeder, transition specialist at Northview High School, will receive the 2013 OCALI Educator Award.

Schroeder was nominated by former student Chloe Rothschild. The award is given to recognize the impact, leadership and accomplishments of professionals who help improve the outcomes for people with autism and low-incidence disabilities.

Schroeder, an 8-year veteran with the schools, helps to make the lives of students with disabilities a little bit better and brighter. She has worked on their behalf to make the transition from school to work easier. She was the coordinator of the BRIDGES program that places students in jobs for a part of their day along with classroom instruction.

Students are able to get real work experience while in school, allowing them to “try” on careers that would make them more employable upon graduation from high school.

Schroeder stated, “I am honored and so proud that Chloe has chosen to take the time and effort to use her gift of writing to nominate me for this award.”

She added: “She is using her voice to express herself through her gift of writing and her nomination was selected out of a field of many applicants.”

Schroeder will be honored during a ceremony on Thursday, Nov. 21 as part of the OCALICON 2013 Conference in Columbus. OCALI is the Ohio Center for Autism and Low Incidence serving families, educators, and professionals.

Chloe is currently working at the Ability Center of NW Ohio and for Adams Publishing while attending school.
