The Sylvania Engineering Club, the Syborgs, traveled to Fargo, N.D., last weekend to compete in the Northern Plains Regional BEST Robotics competition.
Teams from the northern part of the America, representing states from Connecticut to North Dakota, competed.
The Sylvania team consisted of 18 students from Sylvania’s junior highs and high schools and one student from the Toledo School for the Arts. Each student participated in one of the following areas that were judged by engineers from the North Dakota State University's College of Engineering: marketing presentation, team exhibit, spirit and sportsmanship, engineering notebook, and robot performance.
Of the 32 teams in the competition, the Syborgs finished 19th in the robot performance and 17th overall. They also received 2nd place in team Web site design with www.syborgs.org.
Advancing to the regional competition was possible because of a 3rd place BEST finish in the FalconBEST competition at Bowling Green State University.
This is the first year of the Sylvania Engineering Club.
