Traffic patterns on Erie Street will be restricted throughout the week to accommodate an increase in traffic and pedestrians heading to the Marathon Classic at Highland Meadows Golf Club.
Sylvania Police Department Sgt. Danilynn Miller said traffic on Erie Street near Highland Meadows in Sylvania will follow the same pattern as years before for the week-long golf matches that begin with pro-am events through Wednesday and the professional tournament Thursday through Sunday.
Through Wednesday, eastbound traffic on Erie will be pushed into the center lane as the regular eastbound lane will become a bus lane during the hours of the golf matches, Sergeant Miller said.
The lanes will be redrawn each morning by 7 am. and normal traffic patterns will resume each evening, she said.
Once the LPGA tournament begins, left turns will be prohibited on Erie eastbound on to Eaglewood Lane and from Eaglewood Lane to Erie Street. The restrictions will be removed in the evenings.
Police will assist pedestrians crossing the streets to attend the matches.
The police department advises drivers to avoid Erie Street, if possible. Sylvania police will have a security caravan located at the clubhouse parking lot. Sylvania Township Fire Department will be present at the golf club throughout the week.
In another traffic related restriction, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Main Street from Monroe to Erie streets will be closed to traffic. That is when the Sylvania Area Chamber of Commerce’s Taking it to the Streets event runs.
