Sylvania Community Action Team will host its 11th Annual “Walk of Light” from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the Sylvania Northview High School Stadium, 5403 Silica Dr.
The event kicks off Red Ribbon Week, an annual event to show no tolerance for drugs in schools, work places and the community. The Red Ribbon symbolizes a commitment to a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.
The Walk of Light, attended last year by over 400 adults and youth, begins with a presentation of colors by Boy Scout Troop #154, Explorer Post #266, and the Sylvania City Police Department. It will culminate with a pledge by students to remain drug free and by adults to support their child’s efforts led by Judge M. Scott Ramey.
Participants will then join together and circle the track with their flashlights to symbolize their commitment to shine a light on the problem of drug and alcohol abuse by youth.
Other highlights include remarks by Superintendent Brad Reiger, recognition of attending schools, a sing-a-long of “Don’t Laugh at Me” with Eddie Boggs, and a performance by the Sylvania Community Action Team SCAT Youth Crew.
