Lucas County Commissioners today honored two area students for an essay contest put on by the Toledo- Lucas County Commission on Disabilities.
The commission sponsored an essay contest for junior high and high school students in October on the subject of how having a disability or knowing someone is disability has impacted their views on life.
The winner of the junior high section was Colton Selier of Sylvania. Colton attends McCord Junior High. Evergreen High School student Jillian Grinos of Metamora was selected as the winner of the high school portion of the contest.
Each student received a prize package of a $400 check, a $250 gift certificate and a $500 University of Toledo scholarship, and UT gear. Prizes were contributed by The Andersons, the University of Toledo, Layne Psychological Services, and the law firm of Gallon, Takacs, Boissoneault and Schaffer. Other contributions also were received from The Blade and the Toledo-Lucas County Library system.
