Sports bar is trashed by vandals

Suspects walked into Mooney s Sports Bar, 2224 Nebraska Ave., after it closed early Tuesday and vandalized the property, causing the business to close for nearly two days.

The ransacked building is across the street from the Toledo Police Department s Scott Park District Station.

Fred Gose, the bar s manager, said vandals broke televisions, mirrors, and jukeboxes, for starters. Mr. Gose said he did not know the cost of the damage yesterday.

“It was like a tornado went through here,” he said. “They broke every whiskey bottle and beer bottle they could find.”

Mr. Gose said the restaurant next to the bar also was ransacked. He said it took employees 30 hours to clean up the mess and replace broken furniture and appliances.

“I ve never seen it like this,” Mr. Gose said. “We have no idea who could have done it.”

Police said the back door of the establishment was open and the alarm was off. Workers found the damage about 8 a.m. Tuesday, police said.

Mr. Gose said the sports bar reopened for business yesterday afternoon.
