Man sought for shooting over can of beer, change

Toledo police are looking for the 24-year-old man they say shot another man in an attempted robbery over a can of beer and some change.

Police issued an arrest warrant for Terrell Murray of 630 Walnut St. Friday morning for shooting Jerry McElya, 42, in the leg.

Mr. McElya was shot just before 12:45 p.m. Thursday at Lagrange Street and Huron Avenue in North Toledo. He tried to run, but fell at Lagrange and Superior streets.

He was taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center with nonlife-threatening injuries.

The victim told police he had just left a convenience store and was walking home when the suspect asked for 50 cents. The victim said he only had a beer and eight quarters he planned to use for doing laundry.
