BLADE STAFF

FINDLAY — Bystanders pulled a Wayne, Ohio, man from his burning car today in Hancock County’s Cass Township after authorities received a report that a car was on fire.

Jeremy Michaels, 31, was taken by medical helicopter to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo, where he was listed in critical condition.

Sheriff’s deputies said the car fire was reported just after 11 a.m.

Mr. Michaels was northbound on County Road 236 south of County Road 18 when his car went airborne as it crossed railroad tracks. The vehicle drove off the west side of the road, overturned as it crossed a creek bed, and landed upright, deputies said.

Bystanders put out the fire and removed Mr. Michaels from the car. He was wearing a seat belt.

Deputies continue to investigate the crash.

Cass Township is just northeast of Findlay, which is 45 miles south of Toledo.
