FREMONT — A body found Sunday in a remote area near the Sandusky River was that of a Fremont man reported missing two months ago by his family, authorities announced Wednesday.
Damon Scott, 38, had last been seen Jan. 12 and was reported missing the following day, Sandusky County Sheriff's Capt. Jim Consolo said. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation office in Bowling Green confirmed the body's identity Wednesday afternoon based on fingerprints, according to a statement from Fremont police.
No foul play is suspected in Mr. Scott's death, Captain Consolo said, but it may take two to three months to complete official autopsy results.
"The Scott family appreciates all the condolences by the public, but they respectfully request to be left alone to grieve the loss of their loved one," Fremont Police Chief Timothy Wiersma said.
The body was found about three-quarters of a mile north of the Tackle Box II restaurant on the Sandusky River, and just north of Fremont's border with Ballville Township, by the fishermen as they walked in a shallow area of the water, officials said.
