Monroe police chase and arrest motorcyclist clocked at 90 mph

LaSALLE, Mich. -- A Monroe motorcyclist was caught and arrested late Thursday in LaSalle Township after driving away from sheriff's deputies who'd clocked him at speeds exceeding 90 mph.

The man, 40, was to be charged with fleeing and eluding; resisting and obstructing; driving with a suspended license, and having an improper registration, Monroe County sheriff's deputies said. His name was not released pending arraignment.

A deputy on southbound Telegraph Road south of South Otter Creek Road about 8:30 p.m. clocked a motorcycle traveling northbound at 94 mph. The deputy turned around and tried to stop the motorcycle, but it accelerated and turned east on South Otter Creek, nearly crashing on loose gravel. Another near-crash occurred at South Dixie Highway, deputies said, after which the motorcycle turned into a restaurant parking lot. The motorcyclist got off, ran into Swan Creek, under South Dixie, and on to a farm field, where he was arrested.

Deputies impounded his 2006 Harley-Davidson.
