A Toledo man who was wanted by police was coaxed off the ledge of a city bridge Monday morning.

George Armour III, 26, of 3153 Cottage Ave., sat on the concrete wall along the Martin Luther King, Jr., Bridge for less than an hour, initially threatening to jump.

The call came in to Toledo police at 11:12 a.m. Two officers were able to convince Mr. Armour to climb down off the ledge at about 11:45 a.m.

As a precaution, the Toledo Fire Department’s water rescue unit was launched into the Maumee River.

During the “talk down,” the bridge was closed to anyone other than emergency responders.

Police on scene said Mr. Armour, who was taken to Rescue Mental Health Services on Collingwood Boulevard, was wanted for aggravated robbery.

He was ordered to a three-day minimum stay at the mental health facility.

According to court documents, Mr. Armour is accused of threatening a victim with a hunting knife and robbing that person on Friday in the 3300 block of Wilson Place in Toledo.

It was not clear whether Mr. Armour knew he was wanted by police. Mr. Armour was featured briefly on the Toledo Police Department’s Facebook page Monday.

Police Sgt. Kevin Braun, who monitors the page and posts updates — usually about wanted criminals — said the post about Mr. Armour went up shortly before 11:40 a.m., without knowing that Mr. Armour was on the ledge.

“Apparently, one did not have anything to do with the other,” police Lt. Mark King said.

The post was deleted Monday afternoon.

No other charges had been filed against Mr. Armour as of Monday night.
