Suspect in fatal shooting in Van Wert under arrest

VAN WERT, Ohio — Sheriff's deputies arrested a woman Friday morning in the shooting Thursday night of two people in Van Wert, one of whom later died.

Tamara Menke, 47, who lives near Ohio City, was charged with murder. She made an initial appearance, by video, in Van Wert Municipal Court. Judge Jill Leatherman ordered her held at the Van Wert County jail in lieu of $1 million bond.

Van Wert police said that two people were shot about 6 p.m. Thursday at a residence in the 200 block of South Fulton Street. Both were taken to Van Wert Hospital, where Barbara Robinson was pronounced dead. Police have not identified the other person or released a condition.

The shooting led to a search that included Van Wert County sheriff's deputies and the Ohio Highway Patrol.

Other charges are pending, police said.
