Bond set at $150,000 each for 2 who ran from police

Two Toledo men who allegedly had guns and ran from officers were arraigned today in Toledo Municipal Court.

Keviyon Toyer, 19, of 1259 Prospect St., is charged with weapons under disability, failure to comply, carrying a concealed weapon, obstructing official business, drug paraphernalia, and drug abuse.

Jerome Williams, 23, of 3515 Mayo St., is charged with weapons under disability, carrying concealed weapons, receiving stolen property, resisting arrest, drug abuse, and two counts of obstructing official business.

Both were ordered to remain in the Lucas County jail in lieu of $150,000 bond and are to appear for preliminary hearings on March 4.

Toledo police Officer Lawrence Emery was on patrol at about 1:45 a.m. Monday and saw a vehicle drive through a flashing red light at Matzinger Road and Stickney Avenue in North Toledo.

The officer tried to pull over the vehicle, but it sped away until the officer caught up at North Expressway Drive, according to a police report. Once the vehicle was stopped, Officer Emery reported seeing the suspects moving about the vehicle and called for back up before approaching.

Instead of waiting, the suspects sped off, taking Officer Emery on a brief chase before the suspects crashed into a fence at 835 Bricker Ave. and took off running, police said.

Other responding officers found Mr. Williams hiding under a house; Mr. Toyer was found nearby and taken into custody.

Police reported that Mr. Williams had a stolen, loaded .45-caliber handgun; Mr. Toyer had a loaded .32-caliber revolver.
