2 robbery suspects appear in court

Toledo men accused in recent, unrelated crimes

Two Toledo men accused in unrelated robberies were arraigned today in Toledo Municipal Court.

Ryan Shumaker, 24, of 905 S. Byrne Rd., was ordered to remain in the Lucas County jail in lieu of $100,000 for allegedly robbing Charter One Bank, 1501 S. Detroit Ave., on Saturday afternoon.

Police reported that a man went into the bank at 12:25 p.m., passed a note to a teller demanding cash, and then fled. The suspect was arrested hours later after the suspected getaway vehicle was found. Mr. Shumaker was arrested at the Days Inn on Miami Street in East Toledo.

Mr. Shumaker's sister, Jamila Huff, 30, of 409 Fourth St., was also arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and assault. Police were taking Mr. Shumaker into custody when Ms. Huff arrived at the hotel and allegedly tried to get to her brother despite police telling her not to. Officers report that Ms. Huff yelled and pushed Officer Raymond Espinosa.

The officer did not report any injuries.

Ms.  Huff was arraigned today and released from the jail on her own recognizance.

Blake Long, 21, of 5360 Florita, is accused of robbing a South Toledo pizza shop. He remains in the county jail in lieu of $75,000 on a single charge of aggravated robbery.

Police allege that a man went into Vito's Pizza, 4317 Heatherdowns Blvd., pointed a gun at an employee, and demanded cash. With money in hand, the suspect fled.
