Authories have charged Dominique Ezell of 909 Wall St. with two counts of felonious assault after the midday shooting at Detroit Stop, 2516 Detroit Ave. that wounded Tild Reed II, 23, and Aaron Gaines, 53.

Mr. Reed was in the doorway of the carryout about 12:30 p.m. when he was shot in the thigh. He went to ProMedica Toledo Hospital in a private vehicle. A representative said Wednesday evening that the hospital had no information on a patient by that name.

Mr. Gaines was struck in an ankle by a ricocheted bullet. He sat on the steps of the Fatman’s 5 Star BBQ food truck while police canvassed the scene. One shell casing was found, police said.

Ice Sheed, 70, was standing next to Mr. Reed when he was shot. Mr. Sheed, a neighborhood resident, said Mr. Reed told the shooter he wanted to box, but instead the shooter pulled out a gun and fired.

“He could have shot me,” said Mr. Sheed, who was clutching two scratch-off lottery tickets. “I’m still scared. I got high blood pressure ’n’ all that. Old man, no teeth.”

Police did not provide a motive for the shooting, but Mr. Reed and Mr. Ezell appear to have a history which, in at least one other instance, played out at the Detroit Stop.

Police allege that Mr. Reed shot at Mr. Ezell at the carryout in 2011. No injuries were reported, and Mr. Reed was charged with felonious assault, but the charge was dismissed in Toledo Municipal Court after Mr. Ezell failed to show up twice, according to court records.
